Julian Mercer

Tutoring in: Climate Change and Green Energy

Julian graduated with a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Adelaide in 1972 and for most of his career has researched and lectured in Molecular Biology and Genetics.  He has a particular research interest in the health effects of copper.  For the past 15 years, he has lectured in biology and genetics at Deakin university, where he was an Alfred Deakin Professor.  He enjoys making complex concepts accessible to a wider audience.

He has now retired from formal academic work, but has developed new interest in the science of climate change which he considers the major threat for the future.   He undertook a three day training in Climate Reality Leadership course in June 2014 that was run by Al Gore.  He has read extensively on the science of climate change and is appalled by the misrepresentation of the science by some politicians and other vested interests.  He will present the currently knowledge about climate change, and the need for urgent action by our leaders to avoid major disruption to our civilization.

Julian is a keen gardener, aiming to make his backyard produce as much food as possible.  He is also an enthusiastic photographer and sings in a community choir.
