Tutoring in: James Joyce
Frances taught Joyce and his Irish contexts at Deakin University for over 30 years, and also to Japanese students at Kobe College, and as a result believes Joyce's novels are more user-friendly than their reputation.
She was founding director in 1994 of Bloomsday in Melbourne, acknoweldged as one of the premier Bloomsdays around the world (www.bloomsdayinmelbourne.org.au).
She has a long-standing professional interest in teaching for its own sake, and her research intersts include Irish, Irish-Australian, and Australian literatures, feminist literature and theory, the sacred in literature, theatre, and Indigenous Australian dreaming narratives.
